Friday I'm in Love

I like cats. Almost as much as Lee Junghoon does. I follow this person on Instagram, and the photos that keep coming through keep me amused.

I've been a little quiet on the sewing table lately trying to finish some uni assignments. But here's something I'm working on - brooches.

I'll have some Einstein brooches at the Valley Laneway Markets tomorrow. And the Young Designer Markets at Southbank on Sunday. Come get one, and stick some brains on your collar. Yay.

Goodnight lovelies.

Friday I'm in Love

I introduced my brother to James Dean with one of my favourite films this week - Rebel Without A Cause. An absolute classic with more emotional teenage angst in it than all of Nirvana's songs combined.

After watching it, I starting thinking I'd really like to make a James Dean softie. And a Natalie Wood.  And a Rock Hudson. They can have some crazy little 1950's style reunion in our living room.

I best switch my brain off now and get some shut eye.  I'm zooming over to Hamilton in the morning for the next BrisStyle Info Session on Smart Marketing with Sarah Rossiter. Should be awesome.  I'll keep you posted on the James Dean softie.

Goodnight.

Friday I'm in Love

This Friday I'm in love with Carry Nation.

Have you heard of Carry Nation?  They are Jessie Warren on vocals and guitar and Nick (backup vocals and guitar), Kirstie (cello) and Matt (trumpet and piano accordion). Carry Nation are a Brisbane band unearthed on JJJ, with a top album released this year 'Like A River Does'.

They will be performing at the Valley Laneway Markets in Winn Lane this Saturday. And I'll have a market stall there to enjoy the music all day long. Radness.

Check out Jessie's tunes here.

Bye bye and sweet dreams and stuff.

Friday I'm in Love

In an earlier post I mentioned my friend Linda was making me scarves and fingerless mittens.  Today I'd like to share with you her brand new Etsy store, Widows Grove, where Linda sells her crocheted beanies, cowls and scarves made to order.

Linda makes all the items with a lovely thick, soft yarn.  And there is a number of stunning colours to choose from to compliment your wardrobe this winter.

Check out her store here, or click on one of the images above to see pricing.

Friday I'm in love

This Friday I'm in love with a few things.

1.  It was St Patrick's Day yesterday, and this little clip cheered me up. The Muppets version of Danny Boy.

2.  Gone Dotti.  Megan's store in Paddington, QLD will sadly be closing down next Thursday.  But on a high note, you can visit her Etsy shop online and purchase her creative treasures, like these awesome eye chart brooches (pictured above). And you can still visit her shop on Latrobe St - go here for address and hours. But it's limited stock folks, and she'll only be open till next Thursday.

3.  Peppermint Magazine. This gorgeous Brisbane mag, with it's focus on sustainable fashion and lifestyle, is no Women's Weekly.  Plus Peppermint's editor Kelley Sheenan is in the running for WWF Earth Hour People's Choice Awards. Vote for her here.

4.  Mixtape zine.  I've collected a few of these, and was sad to hear they've stopped running now. Don't despair though, there's still a few copies left of this awesome little craft/lifestyle magazine here.

5.  Plants for black thumbs that stay green.  Score.  And no prickles.  Double score.  Cacti handmade by Odds and Ends Handmade. Find them here.

What are you in love with today?

Friday I'm in Love

It's Friday again. And this is what I love this week.

1.  La Roux's Elly Jackson.  I love this girl's hair.  Oh, and her voice is pretty awesome
too. Check her out here.

2.  I think this brooch by Hungry Designs is pretty cute.

3.  I love little purses. And I love books. So of course I love this.

4.  This dish is delish. Seriously.

5.  Degrassi Junior High.  Yeah.  I'm a nerd.

Want to share what you love this Friday?  Don't be shy - leave a comment below.  And don't forget to check out the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets tonight - 5 to 9pm in King George Square, Brisbane.

Happy Friday everyone!

Friday I'm in Love

Friday, I have missed you this week. Thank you for finally showing up. Ok, here is my list of faves for today.

1.  Mama Ferrari's pizza at Cannon Hill.  They make the best pizza in Brisbane, and it's walking distance from home so we can literally roll into bed.
2.  Dreamcats.  I'd love a kitty cat. Looking at this page is enough to keep my feline obsession at ease. Almost.
3.  These creepy soaps are so cool.
4.  My brother has got me hooked on Velvet Underground.
5.  Love the lego art here on Street Art Utopia.

Happy Friday everyone.

Friday I'm in Love

Oh, hello Friday. You have come round quickly for once which is very nice.

Today I'm in love with lots of things.  So many I've decided to make a list.  I think I'll do this for Fridays from now on.

1.  Nutella. You can have it on bread, toast, biscuits - heck, even on it's own. People around the world love it so much that tomorrow is World Nutella Day.  It's also National Chocolate Fondue Day. So hit two birds with the one stone and dip strawberries in that Nutella jar.

2.  Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter to me in the car. Driving to work will never be the same again thanks to audio books.

3.  Lullaby by The Cure, and Robert Smith's story about being eaten by Spiderman. Love it.

4.  These cups from Emerald Flare are pretty damn cute.

5.  Going to the beach with my lovely husband Tim (pictured above).

Happy Friday everyone!

Friday I'm in Love

Have you visited Bess Georgette?  I have just recently discovered the store on Etsy, and I'm very tempted to rework my whole wardrobe.

Run by Teresa Prowse and Tracey Sargent in Brisbane, this cute little online store has gorgeous vintage dresses plus matching shoes and handbags. No more racing out to Myer, you can get your whole outfit here.

Happy Friday everyone!

Friday I'm in Love

The QLD floods have been on the news 24/7 the past couple of weeks, and people all around the world have been helping in whatever way they can with donations and volunteer work.

The amount of help that has come in is truly amazing. Astonishing even.

One person that's supporting Queenslanders in this time of need is Hayley from REread in Brisbane. Sales that she makes from a selection of brooches, like the chicken above, go directly to the Premiers Flood Relief Appeal as part of the BrisStyle Handmade Ark.

And for those people sick of the generic 'Hallmark' cards, Hayley also makes quirky cards like these.

Happy Friday everyone. If you've found something you truly love today, don't be afraid to comment :)

Friday I'm in Love

This Friday I'm in love with the comedian Eddie Izzard.  So much that I have started making an Eddie Izzard softie. Well, a second one actually as I sent the first one to my sister for Xmas.

I hope this little sketch makes you laugh as much as I did.  I have included the lego version below for you as well, as that's highly amusing too.

Friday I'm in Love

Yep, another week has flown and it's Friday already.

This Friday I'm lovin' Trixie Delicious.  They reuse old cups, saucers and plates by painting them with funny and often rude words.

I love this one. I think I'd use it at work.

And remember last week I mentioned Moose and Bird on my blog? Well, if you haven't visited her blog yet you should now. Melinda is giving away this gorgeous pear cushion.

Goodnight people.

Friday I'm in Love

Spring has sprung, and we're super duper excited to be at the BrisStyle Indie Designer Markets tomorrow.

One of the BrisStylers, Lemon Ink, will be there with some funky messenger style bags like this one. They're handmade from recycled materials that could have ended up as landfill, such as seatbelt straps and advertising billboards.
I love this one the most - the ACE Maxi Messenger bag.  I'm sure lots of
dads would love it this Father's Day too.

You'll find Lemon Ink, Wicked Child Designs and many other BrisStylers tomorrow at the BrisStyle market. We'll be at St Augustine's Church Hall and grounds at Racecourse Road, Hamilton, from 9am till 2pm.  And not only will you get to do some fantastic shopping, but you can also get a '2 for 1' movie pass to the new award winning indie film, 'The Kids are Alright' starring Annette Benning and Mark Ruffalo. You'll also get a bonus pass for every ticket you purchase in the big BrisStyle raffle so you can take the whole family along!  Visit the Promo table to enter, and let them know how you found out about  the market to get your free '2 for 1' ticket.

Well, I better get back to packing the car.  Teneale x

Friday I'm in Love

This week I'm in love with Jetta's Nest, run by funky BrisStyler Sam Gilkes.

Sam turns old pieces of timber into brooches with her own original designs such as mushrooms pears and guitars.  She cuts each buy hand using  camphor laurel and pecan timber, then draws her design onto the timber.

Sam also makes monster shirts, crocheted buttonhead brooches, and art prints.  I've purchased a couple of monster shirts for two monsters I know, and can't wait to give them their present.

Come check out the Valley Laneway Markets this Sunday to see more of Sam's work.  She'll be in Bakery Lane, and Wicked Child Designs will be in Winn Lane.  There's a map below for your convenience.

See you all Sunday.

Friday I'm in Love

This Friday I'm in love with this super cool Mega Doily Rug by Ladies and Gentleman on Etsy.  I love collecting old doilies from op shops, so to see a super-sized version is quite awesome.

ps.  And if you're in Brisbane this Sunday, come visit my stall at the Morningside Festival on Thynne Rd, Morningside. My sister will be there too with some lovely Nutrimetics gear.

pps. I'll also be at the Valley Laneway Market Launch next Wednesday night. Details to come very soon.

ppps.  Oh and I'll also be at the BrisStyle Twilight Market next Friday night. King George Square, Brisbane, from 5pm till 9pm. Be there.

Ok, off to bed now.

Friday I'm in Love

Last week I visited Bleeding Heart Gallery to change some stock, and found this awesome little brain brooch by Your Organ Grinder.  Simmone makes lots of other funky organs and body parts from felt too, like knees, ears and livers (after tonight's escapades that liver might be my next purchase).

I've been feeling a little dumb in the past few months, feeling a little forgetful and always running late for things.  I thought it best to add more brains to myself, and hopefully these might help.

Will keep you posted ;)

Friday I'm in Love

I love Fridays. The end of a working week, followed by two whole days of crafting, sleep ins and spending time with family and friends. This Friday I'm in love with screen printing. I stayed up all night having an awesome time printing off these hankies that were discarded at Reverse Garbage for a better life. They are unused and have been washed, don't fret peoples... I'll be printing off some more tonight with different words. Any thoughts on what I've done so far ? Tomorrow I'll be seeing screen printing queen Thea (Thea and Sami) for her open studio day (can't wait to do some xmas shopping there). Then Sunday I'm taking part in a Yudu screen printing tutorial with Katy from What Katy Did at Brown Owls. Golly I'm going to be all screenprinted out... Have a lovely weekend peoples. xo Teneale ps. Thea, I love my mushroom tea towels - they are awesome !!

Speaking of Flight of the Conchords, my latest creations Jemaine and Bret (above) are being wrapped up all pretty for a lovely local Brisbane lady. They will be missed. Better get back to work. See you Sunday. xo Teneale

Friday I'm in love with... Funky Fabrics

Yes I know it's now Saturday here in Brisbane. My computer crashed last night after saving this, so I'm hoping all is okay with the world if I put it in on Saturday instead of Friday... On Thursday night I spent two hours in Myer thinking I'd buy a dress. Instead I walked out with a sub woofer alarm clock. Don't get me wrong, I love my purchase. I just get so frustrated wandering around such a huge department store and not finding what I thought to be an easy purchase - a dress. Instead I was given a choice of drab fabrics, unflattering designs, and all at ridiculously huge prices. The only things I saw that weren't too bad were on the 75% off racks, but they would involve lots of resizing, fixing of zips, etc etc. I'm a busy girl, I don't have time this week. So instead of wearing a pretty dress to the park, I shall be wearing jeans, t-shirt and jacket. I think the weather's getting cold again so it's probably not too bad. Next time I choose to wear a dress, however, I plan to make one with material from Funky Fabrics in Brisbane. Have you seen them ? If not, here's a few fabrics I've been eyeing off lately that are so lovely, I could safely say 'Funky Fabrics is my store'.
Frida's Garden Natural $13.95 AUD per 1/2 metre China Doll $13.95 AUD per 1/2 metre
Rocket Rascals
$13.95 AUD per 1/2 metre
I was happy to find patterns from fellow BrisStyle shop Bettsy Kingston in Funky Fabrics too. They are so cute !!
Bettsy Kingston Reversible Snap Pinny Pattern
$15.95 AUD
What's on tonight ?
Can't wait to check out Michelle's new store - Nook. Lots of handmade goodness and delights. Oh and of course Michelle will be there too :D How she can manage this and her own store Pedrosprout is amazing. xo Teneale
