Love you Queensland.

Queensland has been devastated by massive floods this year. Floods we haven't seen since 1974.  Over 200,000 people have been affected.  At least 70 towns were flooded.  Three quarters of the state was declared a disaster zone.

Yet even in these hard times, when all seems lost, there still appears some hope for those affected.  Please help out where you can so we can make this state beautiful again.

Rain, rain, go away....

Yes, it's raining in Brisbane.  A lot.

Rainy markets are quite scary sometimes, especially when you're not prepared (like us). So I'm making a checklist of things we MUST do and pack before the next market. And what's the first thing on that list? Marquee weights!!   Don't want my marquee going up again, no sir-ee. How freakin' scary!!

Oh well, all you can do is laugh at the end of the day. Thank you everyone that helped us out on Saturday at the BrisStyle Indie Designer's Market. The speedy race with all our stock into the hall kitchen was brilliant, and nothing got damaged which is pretty awesome too!  Fingers crossed the weather clears and brings on a dazzling night for the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market in King George Square, Brisbane - 17 December.  Very much looking forward to it.

Friday I'm in Love

I know, I know. I've neglected my blog again. I'm very sorry.

Today I'd like to introduce you to the Sydney now Brisbane gal Liana Kabel. I am totally in love with her jewellery, which she makes from all kinds of plastic bits.  My favourite would be the knitting needle bangles.

I ran into Liana recently at Finders Keepers in Brisbane, and picked up one of these little Tupperware Lady brooches too. I'm still pondering whether to keep it or not. It was meant to be a Christmas present....

You can find Liana Kabel jewellery in many stores, the list is available here.  A few of my faves in QLD being Bleeding Heart, (m)art, and GoMA.  You can also find her on Etsy here.

I'll be back again soon.  I promise.

To market to market, a gallop a trot...

Firstly, I'd like to send a thank you out to all the sweet people that dropped by my stall at the BrisStyle Indie Eco Market, and also to those that took part in the Monster Softie workshop.  I hope you all enjoyed both the market and the workshop, and we'd love to see some of the finished monsters!

Secondly, thank you to the BrisStyle team for putting together yet another awesome market.  You girls totally rock.

We didn't have time to take many photos, but here's some to show you the fun we had.

Halloween Down Under

We had zombies walking through Brisbane on Sunday 24th October. Did you take part? Was it fun? We're thinking we'll have a go next year, as we found out about it a little too late to register. It was awesome fun though getting to see everyone taking part!

Our zombies went for a bit of a walk too.

I love my shot in black and white. I think it could work for a postcard.

We managed to go trick or treating too, and dressed as the scariest things we could think of. Or what we could put together that was scary-ish.

Shaun of the Dead

Last but not least, don't forget to come to the BrisStyle Indie Eco Market this Saturday at Hamilton. We'll be running a Softie Workshop at 11am, the last for the year, and all materials will be supplied as well as tuition. Please let us know if you are going to attend by emailing wickedchilddesigns@yahoo.com.au or commenting below so we have enough fabric. And please also note it will involve sewing with needles, so the workshop is more suitable for teenagers and adults.  Thanks!

Friday I'm in Love

This Friday I'm in love with the funky beads from Strat Designs, a Brisbane small business run by Sophie Straton-Ferrier.

Sophie loves making jewellery that is eye-catching, colourful and quirky to brighten a lady's day.

Strat Designs will be at the Mayo 2010 Festival tomorrow at St Margaret's Anglican Girls School, Ascot.  But if you're not in Brisbane, fear not. Sophie does have a free worldwide shipping offer at the moment, so go check out her Etsy shop while it lasts!

Goodnight all.

Friday I'm in Love

Spring has sprung, and we're super duper excited to be at the BrisStyle Indie Designer Markets tomorrow.

One of the BrisStylers, Lemon Ink, will be there with some funky messenger style bags like this one. They're handmade from recycled materials that could have ended up as landfill, such as seatbelt straps and advertising billboards.
I love this one the most - the ACE Maxi Messenger bag.  I'm sure lots of
dads would love it this Father's Day too.

You'll find Lemon Ink, Wicked Child Designs and many other BrisStylers tomorrow at the BrisStyle market. We'll be at St Augustine's Church Hall and grounds at Racecourse Road, Hamilton, from 9am till 2pm.  And not only will you get to do some fantastic shopping, but you can also get a '2 for 1' movie pass to the new award winning indie film, 'The Kids are Alright' starring Annette Benning and Mark Ruffalo. You'll also get a bonus pass for every ticket you purchase in the big BrisStyle raffle so you can take the whole family along!  Visit the Promo table to enter, and let them know how you found out about  the market to get your free '2 for 1' ticket.

Well, I better get back to packing the car.  Teneale x

Friday I'm in Love

This week I'm in love with Jetta's Nest, run by funky BrisStyler Sam Gilkes.

Sam turns old pieces of timber into brooches with her own original designs such as mushrooms pears and guitars.  She cuts each buy hand using  camphor laurel and pecan timber, then draws her design onto the timber.

Sam also makes monster shirts, crocheted buttonhead brooches, and art prints.  I've purchased a couple of monster shirts for two monsters I know, and can't wait to give them their present.

Come check out the Valley Laneway Markets this Sunday to see more of Sam's work.  She'll be in Bakery Lane, and Wicked Child Designs will be in Winn Lane.  There's a map below for your convenience.

See you all Sunday.

BrisStyle Twilight Market

Thank you everyone who came to King George Square on Friday night to visit Wicked Child Designs and the rest of the BrisStyle gang. You totally rock.

The night flew so quickly, we barely got a chance to leave the stall. I did manage to pick up some wicked iced coffees from the cafe not too far away from us. Oh and I took this really bad shot of my stall. Way to go me. Oh well, at least it gives you an idea of what the stall was like if for some reason you didn't make it in there.

We're not at Young Designer's Market today, but we will be at the Valley Laneway Markets on the 8th of August.  Looking forward to it. Should be super fun.
Back to the sewing machine I go.

Meeting Kevin Rudd

Last Sunday we had a stall at the local Morningside Festival, held one day each year in Morningside, Brisbane.

Little did we know former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd would be there too. I couldn't resist a little chat, and gave him his very own Wicked Child softie of himself.

We also made it into mX newspaper earlier this month for the BrisStyle Eco market.  And The Beatles went to a very lovely family in Brisbane too.

Want to catch more Wicked Child Designs action ?  Come see us at the BrisStyle Twilight market tomorrow night in King George Square, Brisbane, from 5pm till 9pm.  There'll be loads  of other cool BrisStylers there too - check out the list here - http://www.bris-style.com/page/indie-twilight-market/

Awesome

Some awesome stuff happened in June.  Like appearing in Frankie Magazine for starters.

The Beatles set are now at Bleeding Heart Cafe Gallery, along with
Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd.

And my auntie Teresa was honoured on the Queen's Birthday Order of Australia list in the General Division for her service to aged welfare and to charitable organisations.  This is well deserved recognition of her long years of dedicated service.

Awesome stuff.   Love it.

What's goin' on....

Hello again !

I've been busy making extra things for the BrisStyle Indie Eco Market next month.

Like bottle cap magnet sets,

and cards,

and gift tag sets from pre-loved golden books. I then made a 3 metre chain to decorate my stall with the scraps left over.

There'll be more dolls coming along too. Maybe I should book two tents...

Hope to see you there.
